Jannik Sinner's last mission – with a question mark

Jannik Sinner's dream year is not over yet. Before he goes on his well-deserved vacation, the Sextner will still play in the Davis Cup finals. There is a question mark ahead of the tournament in Malaga.

These are beautiful but also quite stressful days for Jannik Sinner. The Pusterer won the ATP Finals in Turin on Sunday and thus continued to work on his legendary status. But there is not much time for celebrations. Sinner drove from Turin to his adopted home of Monte Carlo on Monday and will fly to Malaga in Spain, where the final round of the Davis Cup is taking place.

Sinner will be competing with Italy as defending champion. A year ago, the Sextner almost single-handedly led the Azzurri to victory and gave Italy the "ugliest salad bowl in the world" for the first time since 1976. This year, captain Filippo Volandri's team wants to repeat this feat. Alongside Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti, Matteo Berrettini and the double Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli were called up to the team.

It starts on Thursday with the quarter-final against Argentina. Either the USA or Australia would be waiting in the semi-final, and the final could be a dream duel with Spain (and the duo Carlos Alcaraz/Rafael Nadal). But Italy's Davis Cup team doesn't want to think that far ahead. The focus is on the duel against Argentina.

Does Sinner also play doubles?

There is a question mark ahead of the Davis Cup. Will Sinner also play in doubles? A year ago, the Sexten superstar played in both singles and doubles, back then with Lorenzo Sonego, who was not called up this year. The Pusterer showed off his full skills in both disciplines and won every one of his matches.

This year Italy has one of the best doubles teams in the world, Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli, who recently competed at the ATP Finals. It will be interesting to see how captain Filippo Volandri decides. But when push comes to shove, it would be very surprising if the world's best tennis player had to sit on the bench.
