The overall World Cup is also at stake at Kronplatz

The alpine women's ski circus has moved from Cortina d'Ampezzo to St. Vigil in Enneberg in South Tyrol, a good hour's drive away.

A giant slalom is on the program at Kronplatz on Tuesday (10.30 a.m./13.30 p.m.). In the overall World Cup, Lara Gut-Behrami continues the hunt for Mikaela Shiffrin, who is missing due to injury, in Cortina. Unexpectedly, the display case for the large glass cup recently opened slightly for Gut-Behrami. The experienced Swiss scored 225 points in Cortina. After her Super-G victory, the 2015/16 overall winner is still 195 points behind Shiffrin, who will not compete in any more races for an indefinite period after her fall.

The only thing that is certain for now is that the exceptional US athlete will not be able to defend her two Kronplatz victories from last year. Shiffrin is definitely benevolent the cancellation of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen speed competitions next weekend heard. With four downhill runs and five super-Gs, three slaloms and three giant slaloms to follow after Kronplatz, the remaining program in the Shiffrin/Gut-Behrami duel does not speak against the Swiss in advance. She goes into the Kronplatz race as the discipline leader in giant slalom, in which she has already come second twice (2021, 2023).

What's going on for the Azzurre?

Behind Shiffrin and Gut-Behrami, Federica Brignone is in third place in the overall World Cup. The Italian recently disappointed in Cortina and is therefore 3 points away from Shiffrin. If Brignone wants to have a say in the big crystal ball this year, she should find her form again at Kronplatz.

From a South Tyrolean perspective, Elisa Platino is there. The 25-year-old from Merano recently achieved her best World Cup result with 15th place in Jasna. Now Platino wants to score points at her home World Cup for the first time. Marta Bassino, Sofia Goggia, Laura Pirovano, Roberta Melesi, Lara Della Mea, Ilaria Ghisalberti and Asja Zenere complete the azure line-up on the Erta slope.
