Double victory: Malsiner wins Summer Grand Prix ahead of Sieff

Lara Malsiner from Val Gardena and Annika Sieff from Trento made history in the women's ski jumping summer Grand Prix. With a sensational double victory in the overall ranking, the two celebrated a historic success for the azure blue sport of ski jumping.

That was not to be expected. Lara Malsiner won the overall ranking of the Summer Grand Prix in women's ski jumping on Saturday. On the large hill in Klingenthal, Germany, 15th place was enough for the Val Gardena native to secure the summer title. Completely unexpectedly, Annika Sieff from Trentino also came second in the overall ranking, thus guaranteeing a double victory for the azure blues.

Many top athletes from the World Cup on the large hill were present at this competition, but the two Azzurre remained calm, concentrated on their jumps and defended their positions confidently. The German Katharina Schmid won the competition with 253,6 points, followed by the Norwegian Eirin Marie Kvandal (240,6) and the Japanese Yuki Ito (235,8), but the spotlight belonged to Malsiner (15th place/196,3) and Sieff (14th place/204,7), whose performances were enough to ensure success.

Insam misses coup

Alex Insam had to give up all hopes of overall victory a little later. The Selva native, who had been leading the Grand Prix rankings for a long time, missed the second round with a jump of 121,5 m and, in 32nd place, did not collect any points. Insam ended up in fourth place in the overall rankings behind the winner Pawel Wasek (Poland), Stefan Kraft (Austria) and Marius Lindvik (Norway). Lindvik took the day's victory ahead of Timi Zajc (Slovenia) and his compatriot Halvor Egner Granerud. The summer season will end on Sunday with a team competition, before it is not long before winter begins.
