South Tyrol's winter sports talents are causing a sensation

The local winter sports young talent also made people sit up and take notice last weekend with strong performances at local, national and international levels. As usual, the weekly review of the sports of tobogganing, biathlon, cross-country skiing and freestyle.

At the international level, the final stage of the Junior Luge World Cup on natural track took place in Umhausen. In the double-seater category, Tobias Paur/Andreas Hofer not only clinched their fourth victory in the fourth race, but also won the overall victory. In the young men's single-seater, Anton Gruber Genetti celebrated his first victory and relegated his teammate and overall winner Alex Oberhofer to second place. The best racer in the state squad was Andreas Hofer, who finished 12th and is eighth in the overall standings.


Among the young women, Jenny Castiglioni finished third on the podium in the single-seater and took second place overall, while her sister Nina came fourth as the best athlete in the state squad in Umhausen. The best luger of the state squad in the overall ranking is Lotte Mulser in fifth place.

The Raiffeisen South Tyrol Cup in sports tobogganing continued on Saturday in Latzfons on the Lahnwiesen track. 82 tobogganers took part. The fastest times were recorded by Jasmin Lang (ASV Latzfons/1.10,41:1.09,00 minutes) and Tobias Müller (Laugen Tisens/XNUMX:XNUMX).

Biathlon: Braunhofer and Huber in the Italian Cup with one win each

The Italian Cup of Ski Hunters continued at the weekend in Valdidentro (Province of Sondrio). A mass start took place on Saturday. Of the athletes in the state squad, Andreas Braunhofer achieved the outstanding result. The man from Ridnaun prevailed in the Aspiranti age group ahead of his teammates Alex Fontana (Gröden) and Julian Huber (Antholz). Among the young women of the same age, Thea Wanker from Val Gardena narrowly missed the podium in fourth place. In the Giovani age group, Diletta Broll from Val Gardena took ninth place as the best South Tyrolean. Among young men of the same age, Maximilian Leitgeb, who competes for the Carabinieri sports group, came fifth.

The South Tyroleans also had reason to celebrate in biathlon.


Sunday, however, was all about a sprint. In the Aspiranti category, Huber was ahead this time, Braunhofer took second place and Marteller Jonas Tscholl climbed onto the podium in third place. Among the young women in the same age group, Tanja Wanker remained flawless at the shooting range and came second. Her twin sister Thea took sixth place. In the junior women's category, Denise Planker from Val Gardena, a member of the army sports group, was happy about third place.


Two podiums at the Italian Freeski Cup

South Tyrol's young freestylers celebrated two notable successes at national level. Maria Gasslitter took second place in the Giovani age group at the Italian Freeski Cup in Prato Nevoso. Liam Gamper, however, came third in the Allievi category.


Cross-country skiing: The national sprint champions have been crowned

The cross-country skiers worked a double shift at the weekend and were in Reischach twice. On Saturday, the state championships in the obstacle sprint in the free running technique were held, in which around 300 endurance athletes took part.
