Decimated Pioneers make life difficult for Bozen residents

On Sunday, HCB Südtirol Alperia had to play against the Pioneers in Vorarlberg. On paper, it was a no-brainer, but the weakened Austrians threw everything into the mix and made the Füchse sweat.

The Bozen fans (a few of them could also be heard in the Vorarlberghalle) probably imagined it quite differently. It was supposed to be a must-win, especially since the decimated Vorarlberg team only had three lines. But what the visiting fans in the stadium and in front of the TV were treated to was a struggle from the Bozen team. In the end, however, the visitors were able to celebrate a 4:2 victory. But the Füchse certainly didn't put on a masterpiece on Sunday.

Was it the time change? Or did the Füchse underestimate their opponent? No one knows, it can only be rumored. One thing is certain: Coach Dylan Stanley's men gave it their all and more than stood up to the South Tyroleans for a long time. The fighting spirit, the necessary toughness and the willingness to run were lacking for a long time from the Bozen team - it was only in the last third that the White-Reds were the better team.

The main reasons why the Foxes ultimately took the three points from Vorarlberg were their toughness and coolness on the one hand and goalie Gianluca Vallini on the other. The true Bozen native, who was given priority over Sam Harvey on Sunday and also celebrated his 31st birthday, showed a strong performance and helped his teammates out of a jam on several occasions. The away win was the best birthday present for Vallini.

The most important scenes of the game

FreezingLead out of nowhere for Bozen: Beautiful through ball from Peter Spornberger to Anthony Salinitri, who coolly scores into the far corner to give HCB the lead (12th).
Monster-Save!Joshua Passolt is played through perfectly and only has the empty goal in front of him, but HCB keeper Gianluca Vallini keeps his goal clean in the manner of a football goalie. What a monster save! (17th).
Pioneers strongThe home team equalizes in the power play. David Keefer has an eye for Lucas Sowder, who leaves Vallini no chance with a well-placed shot (29th). Shortly afterwards, the Pioneers miss a huge opportunity: In a 2-on-0, Keefer only hits the crossbar (30th).
First cheers, then disillusionmentCole Hults' blueliner jumps from the boards to Giordano Finoro, who plays the hard rubber puck in front of the goal. Marchetti is in the right place and scores to make it 2-1 (49th minute). But just a short time later, the home team equalizes again: Passolt outwits Vallini in the power play with a shot from the slot (51st minute).
DecisionThe Foxes finally make use of a power play! The puck is moving well, Finoro has an eye for Adam Helewka, who shoots the HCB to victory (52nd minute). In the final phase, the Pioneers remain harmless, but Hults can celebrate an empty-net goal (59th minute).

With the hard-fought 3:2 away win, the Bozen team has extended its lead in the table. The Füchse continue with a real treat. On All Saints Day, i.e. on Friday, November 1st, the second South Tyrolean derby of the season against HC Pustertal is scheduled. who celebrates a clear away win at Asiagoe. It starts in the Bruneck Intercable Arena at 19.45 pm. SportNews will accompany the derby with a live ticker.
