The Edmonton Oilers, who started the NHL season so poorly, will have to be without their most important player for some time.

Connor McDavid suffered an upper body injury in the 2-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets and will not be able to play for one to two weeks, the Oilers announced on Sunday. This would mean McDavid, the best attacker in the National Hockey League for years, would probably miss five or six games.

Last season, McDavid was voted the NHL's most valuable professional for the third time. The Oilers, who started the season with great ambitions, have only won one of five games.

Red Wings continue to be sensational

After the opening defeat at the start of the season, the traditional club from the Autostadt has now won five games in a row. Alex DeBrincat was the outstanding player with three goals and one assist. Lucas Raymond and Justin Holl each had three assists.
