Saudis lure Vinicius Jr. with a billion dollar fee

According to media reports, Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund (PIF) wants to lure Real star Vinicius Jr. to the kingdom with a billion-dollar fee.

The Brazilian is set to receive 200 million euros per season for a five-year contract with Al-Ahli, as the Reuters news agency reported on Monday, citing a source close to the player. Vinicius Jr. is said to be considering the offer, but the Saudi officials must first come to an agreement with Real.

The Madrid team, who like the PIF did not want to comment on the matter when asked, have apparently ruled out selling the 24-year-old striker. The release clause for Vinicius is fixed and stands at one billion euros. Saudi Arabia apparently wants to win Brazil's team striker as an ambassador for the 2034 World Cup, which is to take place in the kingdom.

The state fund owns the majority shares of the four top teams Al-Hilal (Neymar), Al-Nassr (Cristiano Ronaldo), Al-Ittihad (Karim Benzema) and Al-Ahli.
