Fiorentina is the first cup semi-finalist

Fiorentina has reached the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia for the third time in a row. In the “Derby dell'Appennino” the team from Florence held their own against Bologna in a penalty shootout.

The two surprise teams from Serie A opened the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Tuesday. The fourth-placed team received the fifth-placed team from Bologna. Just as both teams are only separated by one point in the league, the cup fight was equally balanced.

Both opponents left the few top-class players and the many half-chances unused for over 120 minutes and so the fans had to wait until the penalty shootout before they celebrated the goal for the first time. Fiorentina ultimately had the better end there. After a total of eight goals in a row, the Austrian Stefan Posch made Bologna's first miss, then Maxime Lopez bagged the home win.

In the semi-finals, the Viola will now face the winner of the game Milan against Atalanta, which will be played on Wednesday evening. A few hours earlier there is a derby between Lazio and Roma at the Olimpico. Juventus will finally face Frosinone on Thursday.

The quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia:

Fiorentina - Bologna
Lazio – Roma (Wednesday, 18 p.m.)
Milan – Atalanta (Wednesday, 21 p.m.)
Juventus – Frosinone (Thursday, 21 p.m.)
