a Serie B

Still no end in sight: Lecco was officially informed at the weekend that they would not be allowed to take part in Serie B.

Admission to series B refused: Lecco files an appeal

The posse surrounding Lecco is entering the next round. The winner of the Serie C playoffs has been denied entry into the upcoming Serie B championship, it was revealed over the weekend. But the club continues to fight for its first second division season in 50 years.

“Calcio Lecco 1912 announces that registration for the Serie B championship was rejected late on Friday evening.” With these words, the supposed newcomer announced the next setback in the fight for Serie B participation. The reason for the decision of the Italian football association FIGC is that Lecco did not announce the venue for the coming season on time.

The outcry was great. Clubs and high-ranking officials, including Serie B boss Mauro Balata, rallied behind the promoted team. Nevertheless, the registration – the deadline for the announcement was June 30th – was not accepted. Lecco now has until July 5th (Wednesday) to present an appeal. In this, the club will rely primarily on the fact that the Serie C playoffs started 10 days late. This means that after achieving promotion, the club only had 2 days instead of 12 days for all registration modalities.
