Cesc Fabregas quits and becomes coach

There was a huge outcry when Cesc Fabregas signed for Serie B club Como last summer. Now the former world and European champion has put an end to his playing career. The Spaniard is tackling a new challenge.

The former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder is ending his playing career at the age of 36. Fabregas announced this on social media. “After 20 incredible years of sacrifice, dedication and joy, it is time to say thank you and say goodbye to the beautiful game,” he wrote in his post. In the future, Fabregas will take over Como's junior team (“Primavera”) and will thus enter the coaching business directly.

Last year, Fabregas made 17 appearances for Como and was able to provide two assists. The fact that the former Arsenal captain was getting a bit old was also evident during Como's guest appearance at the Drusus Stadium in Bolzano. Nevertheless: Fabregas is and remains a football legend. In the 2010 World Cup final against the Netherlands, he provided the decisive assist for match winner Andres Iniesta. It is no surprise that he will now go straight into coaching at Como. This was already in mind when he moved last year.
