A complicated task for FC Südtirol

FC Südtirol got off to a successful start in Serie B with a 3-3 draw against promotion candidate Spezia. On Saturday, however, a completely new challenge awaits the white-red team – and an old friend.

Stefano Vecchi coached FC Südtirol twice. Most recently from 2019 to 2021. However, promotion to Serie B was not successful. Vecchi's successor Ivan Javorcic achieved this in Bolzano. Meanwhile, Vecchi moved on to Saló. With the Gardasee Kickers he achieved the first Serie B promotion in the club's history in his second year. In the first second division home game (the game will be played in Piacenza because the stadium in Saló is too small), Feralpisaló will now face their long-standing Serie C rivals.

Vecchi didn't exactly leave FC Südtirol on good terms. He was disappointed that he was no longer trusted to carry out the Ascension mission. Vecchi took revenge last year, among other things, in the first round of the Italian Cup, in which Feralpisaló defeated FCS 3-1 in the Drusus Stadium. This was short-term coach Lamberto Zauli's only competitive appearance.

Enough of the story. The signs are completely different this time. FC Südtirol did excellently in its first Serie B year. Feralpisaló first has to provide this proof. At the premiere in Parma there was a 0-2 defeat. Accordingly, the Vecchi team wants to get their first Serie B points on Saturday evening (20.30 p.m.).

How does the FCS play?

At FC Südtirol, central defender Giuseppe Cuomo is slightly injured and therefore not fit for action. Juventus newcomer Daouda Peeters is also not an option on Saturday. Andrea Giorgini could play in central defense alongside Andrea Masiello. And how does the FCS play in midfield? In any case, Jeremie Broh and Lorenzo Lonardi are pushing their way into the starting eleven. Raphael Kofler could take a seat on the bench this time.

“The attackers are now further than they were last week,” said Pierpaolo Bisoli on Friday at the final PK in Rungg. By this he means, for example, Silvio Merkaj or Emanuele Pecorino. The FCS coach is once again not letting his guard down when it comes to the line-up. Daniele Casiraghi, Raphael Odogwu and Matteo Rover can be expected in the starting line-up again. The first two mentioned in particular shone against Spezia.
