Injured: FCS defense chief Masiello is out for the season

Is Andrea Masiello playing or not playing? Football fans have already asked themselves this question twice this season in the run-up to the Bari games. However, there will now be no more discussions. The head of defense at FC Südtirol was injured.

Andrea Masiello had to 1-0 home win against Reggina on Friday evening being carried off the pitch on a stretcher in the second half. He injured his elbow during a rescue attempt and was taken to hospital. On Saturday, the FCS announced that Masiello suffered an elbow dislocation (he dislocated his elbow). The recovery time is estimated to be around 20 days.

This means that Masiello will not only miss the two playoff semi-finals against Bari (May 29th and June 2nd), but also the possible final matches (June 8th and 11th). At least for the two Bari games his use would have been questionable anyway. Because of his explosive betting past, Masiello had always been missing from the previous two matches against his former club.

Whatever the case: Masiello's failure is a bitter loss for the FCS. After all, the 37-year-old was the great source of calm and stabilizer in the defense this year. The former Champions League player is one of the main people responsible for FC Südtirol's fairytale season.
