Csomor and Molinari win 25th Lake Kaltern Triathlon

600 participants took part in the anniversary edition of the Lake Kaltern Triathlon today in wonderful summer weather. In the men's race, Piedmontese Giulio Molinari started the race as favorite and also won in 1:56.54 hours, 36 seconds ahead of Andrea Secchiaro and 41 seconds over Tomas Toth. Matthias Steinwandter from Puster came fourth. The junior European champion completed the 1,5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running in 1:58.18 hours. This means that Steinwandter should have qualified for the U23 European Championships in Holten in the Netherlands. He also won the South Tyrolean duel against Daniel Hofer from Bolzano, who had to settle for 2th place in 03.51:12 hours. However, Hofer went into the race weakened by the flu and had to give preference to Thomas Steiner from Bruneck, who finished one place ahead of the man from Bolzano in 2:02.28 hours.

6th place for 20-year-old Lisa Schanung from Brixen Favorite Erika Csomor from Budapest won the women's race. She celebrated the second Hungarian victory in Kaltern, twelve years ago her compatriot Peter Hobor won in the men's race. The 39-year-old can look back on a very successful career. In the 90s she was one of the best Hungarian long-distance runners, then she became duathlon world champion twice and also won four Ironmans. She became runner-up at the 2007 Triathlon Long Distance World Championships. Csomor won in 2:12.47 hours. Last year's winner Daniela Chmet from Trieste crossed the finish line in second place, 44 seconds behind. The 20-year-old Lisa Schanung from Brixen came in excellent sixth place, finishing the competition in a very good 2:17.28 hours despite being behind on training (had to take several weeks off due to shingles). “I am very satisfied with my performance, I actually only had to struggle with the heat in the final run,” said Schanung happily at the finish. Another woman from Brixen, Manuela Janesi, who won three times in Kaltern from 1994 to 1997, took 2th place in 31.25:11 hours.
