Laura Dahlmeier is not resting even after the end of her biathlon career and is even setting new records. The two-time Olympic champion and seven-time world champion climbed Ama Dablam in Nepal, one of the most technically demanding routes in the Everest region, and broke the previous record: In just twelve hours, one minute and eleven seconds, the 31-year-old managed the route from the base camp at 4.576 meters to the 6.812-meter-high summit and back. No other mountaineer has mastered this climb faster to date.
"It was an incredible day, I was able to completely surrender myself to the path and the beauty of the surroundings," wrote Dahlmeier on Instagram. She made it clear: "It wasn't about the record for me, but about what I love most - climbing, feeling nature and feeling alive."
Matterhorn of Nepal
The challenging route is only 15 kilometers from Mount Everest and is considered one of the most difficult in the mountain range: Due to its enormous ascent and extreme weather conditions, Ama Dablam is also called the “Matterhorn of Nepal”.Dahlmeier climbed the summit three days earlier in preparation before attempting the record. The ascent alone took her eight hours and 24 minutes, beating the previous best time. The men's world record currently stands at an impressive six hours and 23 minutes, set by Frenchman Matheo Jacquemod in 2023.
Once an athlete, always an athlete
Dahlmeier, who surprisingly retired from biathlon in 2019, is still at home in the mountains despite the end of her career. In addition to her studies, she trained as a mountain and ski guide and competed in the Mountain Running World Championships. Her record on the Ama Dablam shows that she is capable of top athletic performance even away from the cross-country ski trail and that she remains true to her line of always giving 100 percent.Edit Profile
