Michela Ponza's shot at happiness

Now, almost two years after the end of her career, the woman from Val Gardena has fired another shot - this time not on the shooting range of a biathlon arena, but in the registry office in St. Christina - and, as one would expect from Ponza, clean and unfussy into the goal… or rather into personal happiness. Ponza got married to long-term friend Elia Bisognin on Saturday. At the wedding, which took place in the closest family circle and was carried out by Mayor Moritz Demetz, one or two tears rolled down the cheek of the dashing bride. All too understandable, since “Micky” probably celebrated one of the greatest triumphs of her life on Saturday.

Long distance relationship no problem Her husband Elia is from Vicenza and is currently stationed with the Navy in Taranto - literally at the foot of Italy's Boots region. In the near future, after completing his additional training, he wants to move to La Spezia (Liguria) in order to be closer to his new wife. But this constant long-distance relationship doesn't bother the two of them, also because Ponza herself is always away from home as the coach of Italy's biathlon juniors. Due to the couple's tight schedule, the church wedding will not take place until autumn, although the exact date has not yet been set. Michele Ponza was always a model athlete when she was active in biathlon. She climbed onto the World Cup podium nine times in her career (although she was always denied a victory) and, as a highlight, won World Cup bronze in the relay in the spring of 2013 in Nové Město. However, she was only able to celebrate such a wonderful success as on Saturday in her life very rarely.
