“Ciao cocoa, end of terrain”: German ski lady abdicates

With the words “Ciao cocoa, end of terrain,” the 24-year-old ski racer Nadine Kapfer ends her promising career as a DSV star. The reason for the early and surprising exit is probably a knee injury from September 2022.

Kapfer, who was considered a speed talent at SC Garmisch, tore a cruciate ligament in September 2022. The injury required surgery and healed poorly. She then had to undergo surgery a second time. The interventions threw the Germans back unexpectedly, so that they never found their way back to their old form and lost their squad status. Now the 24-year-old is drawing a line in the sand.

Kapfer skied for the first time as a child on Steckenberg, as she reveals in her farewell post on Instagram. Her passion and commitment brought her to the World Cup for the first time in 2020, where she took on the big boys. Her early career highlight in the European Cup followed in January 2024: third place in the downhill race in Orcières.

Bad luck with injuries makes dreams shattered

In her hometown of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Kapfer caused a stir in January 2022 when she finished 33rd in a World Cup race, narrowly missing the points. These strong performances gave hope for a promising future, but bad luck with injuries shattered this dream.

With a positive outlook on the future, Nadine Kapfer is looking forward to a new chapter in her life. Saying goodbye to active racing marks the end of an important phase, but she is excited about the new opportunities that lie ahead. Her humorous and determined character, which has accompanied her throughout her entire career, is reflected in her final words: “Ciao Cocoa, End of the Terrain. I’m hereby hanging up my racing skis.”
