The squad for Sölden is

The 2024/25 Ski World Cup begins this weekend in Sölden. 12 athletes will compete for Italy.

7 women and 5 men will represent the Italian national ski team at the opening event in Sölden. The women will be the first to open the World Cup season on Saturday (10am/13pm). The men's turn will be on Sunday, also at 10am and 13pm.

The Azzurri have rarely been really successful in Sölden - at least as far as the men are concerned. They have only achieved 2 podium places. The last one was 12 years ago, when Manfred Mölgg was second on the podium. The women, on the other hand, have collected 12 podium places, including 3 victories. The last one was 5 years ago, however. In 2020, Marta Bassino was the last Azzurra to be at the top of the traditional opening event on the Rettenbachferner.

Goggia not in the squad

Things have looked better in the past when it comes to South Tyrolean participants. This weekend, only three athletes from South Tyrol will be competing in Sölden. In addition to Elisa Platino, these are Alex Vinatzer and Hannes Zingerle. Incidentally, superstar Sofia Goggia is not in the squad. The Bergamaskin is on the way back after her training crash in the summer, but the races in Sölden come too soon for Goggia.

The squad for Sölden

Women: Federica Brignone, Marta Bassino, Roberta Melesi, Asja Zenere, Elisa Platino, Ilaria Ghisalberti, Giorgia Collomb
