The wild Kilde amazes everyone in Adelboden

Marco Odermatt won the giant slalom in Adelboden for the third time in a row. But of all people, his biggest competitor in the overall World Cup caused the sensation of the day.

While things didn't go his way for his girlfriend Mikaela Shiffrin on Saturday, Things went even better for Aleksander Aamodt Kilde in Adelboden. The Norwegian was sensationally in third place after the first round. In the final, the downhill specialist went one better and, in second place, finished on a giant slalom podium for the first time in his career. And of all things on the demanding slope in the Bernese Oberland, which is one of the most difficult in the World Cup.

Once again, only Marco Odermatt was faster than the 31-year-old. The Swiss celebrated his 29th World Cup victory and distanced Kilde by 1,26 seconds on the shortened giant slalom (visibility was poor). The big Odermatt party then took place in the finish area. The dominator really heated up his fans. The Croatian Filip Zubcic, who made a good leap forward in the final, came third.

Best Azzurro was Luca De Aliprandini in 8th place. Alex Vinatzer continues to have the giant slalom season of his life. The man from Val Gardena had a bit of bad luck with his visibility in the second round. In the end, it was still enough for 11th place. Vinatzer had never been this far ahead in this discipline before. This is the fourth time in a row that he has collected points in giant slalom. Hannes Zingerle (29th) missed a better placing because of a serious mistake on the finish slope. We continue in Adelboden on Sunday with a slalom (10.30/13.30).
