The chances of the South Tyroleans at the World Ski Championships in Schladming

At the last title fights in Garmisch, the South Tyroleans won five medals: Christof Innerhofer won a complete set of medals (gold in the SuperG, silver in the combination and bronze in the downhill), while Manfred Mölgg won bronze in the slalom and Peter Fill in the combination. It would of course be a dream to repeat this result in Schladming. On paper, all nine South Tyrolean World Cup participants, two women and seven men, have a chance of getting on the podium.

For the women, there are only two South Tyroleans left in the World Cup squad: the experienced Denise Karbon and Manuela Mölgg. The exclusion of Lisa Agerer came as a bit of a surprise. Hanna Schnarf is injured, Lucia Recchia has ended her career, Verena Stuffer and Nicole Gius failed to qualify.

The Castelrotto woman Denise Carbon took part in her first World Cup in St. Anton in 2001. Two years later she won silver in the giant slalom in St. Moritz, followed by the bronze medal in Are in 2007. The woman from Enneberg has been suffering from back pain since the start of the season and has therefore never been able to train fully this year. Mölgg will compete in the slalom and the giant slalom.

The men's eyes are wide open in Schladming Christoph Innerhofer be directed. He was a superstar in Garmisch two years ago, won three medals and became world champion in SuperG. This year too, things have gone quite well so far, even though he was often in poor health. Innerhofer won the downhills in Beaver Creak and Wengen and came third in the SuperG in Kitzbühel. One of his biggest competitors in the downhill race will probably be the Ultner dominik paris be. The 23-year-old is only competing in his second World Championships in Schladming, but has already proven his incredible class this year with the World Cup victories on the extremely difficult slopes in Bormio and Kitzbühel. Paris is considered a fixed starter in the downhill and combination and will probably have to watch in the SuperG.

Already has two World Cup medals Peter Fill won. The 30-year-old from Castelrotto won silver in the SuperG in Val D'Isere in 2009 and bronze in the combination in Garmisch two years ago. The 30-year-old is in impressive form this year, coming second at the World Cup opener in Sölden, third in Adelboden and fourth no less than four times.
