Twins: Former ski star in great baby joy

While his former colleagues are slowly but surely getting into World Cup mode, a Swiss ex-ski star has a very special reason to celebrate. He has become the father of twins.

In his career as a skier, Mauro Caviezel has raced down the fastest slopes in the world. Now he is racing full speed into parenthood: his wife Nina gave birth to twins a week ago.

"Welcome to the family," wrote the 36-year-old Swiss, adding two angel emojis. On November 11, the two new arrivals were born - a boy and a girl, mind you. Caviezel welcomed Nala Rose and Maleo Mauro with lots of love. "I'm so excited to show you the world," Caviezel wrote on the Instagram post.

The Swiss is in luck. This was not always the case during his skiing career. He had to end his career early due to injury. In 2021, the Swiss suffered a head injury in a training fall that kept him off the slopes for almost two years. A further traumatic brain injury ultimately caused Caviezel to end his career with a heavy heart in January 2023.

He met his wife at her sickbed

The Swiss celebrated great successes, winning the Super-G ranking in the 2019/20 season and making it onto the World Cup podium a total of twelve times. In 2017, he won silver in the World Championships in the combined event. Incidentally, Caviezel met his wife Nina at her hospital bed. After a torn Achilles tendon in the summer of 2020, there was a spark between the nurse and the ski star. That's what you call a blessing in disguise.
