The inseparable ski jumping sisters

Italy's ski jumpers had to adjust to the umpteenth change of coach this year. This time, however, the change on the command bridge is welcomed, because Romed Moroder, the man who represents ski jumping in South Tyrol like no other, is returning to the team.

"I am very happy that Romed is our coach again. He has known us since we were little. We also have a trainer again who accompanies us every step of the way during our athletic training at home." These are the words of Lara Malsiner, who learned her skills under Moroder.

Return to the roots The coach from Ortisei spent decades building up the Val Gardena before moving to Austria and enjoying great success there. The collaboration between the Val Gardena native and the ÖSV ended in 2021. He then returned to the state squad and now to the national team, where he leads the team alongside Harald Rodlauer, with whom he already worked at the ÖSV. "That's another important point, because they complement each other very well," says Malsiner.

The collaboration between the athletes and the new coaching team has already borne fruit. Lara Malsiner sensationally won the overall ranking of the Summer Grand Prix in the summer. "That was unexpected because I usually only get into shape in the winter. And the last few years have not gone as I wanted. It was surprising that I improved so much in such a short time," says the Val Gardena native. Now it's about not getting cocky and continuing the work that has been started, "because you never get there."

Jessica looks up to her sister "My sister's successes are very motivating," says Jessica Malsiner. "Because you know that you are doing the right things in training. That gives you a lot of security." Security that she needs after difficult seasons. Last year, her best result was 19th place. And she also had a hard time at the Grand Prix.

"To deal with the difficult times better, I started working with a mental coach. It helps me to approach things more positively," says Jessica. For now, she doesn't want to focus on the results. It's more about getting her old moves back. With the new team of trainers, who have also brought new ideas and methods, she should be able to do that.
