Chiefs become first NFL team to secure playoff ticket

With a hard-fought victory, the Kansas City Chiefs have become the first American football team in the US professional league NFL to secure a play-off ticket.

The team led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes won a narrow 19:17 against the Las Vegas Raiders. The victory was only secured by a mistake by the Raiders, who brought the ball into play too early seconds before the end and subsequently lost to the defending champions from Kansas City.

The Chiefs were leading 16-3 in the third quarter and suddenly found themselves trailing 16-17 at the start of the final quarter. A field goal by kicker Matthew Wright put the Chiefs back in the lead, which was enough for their eleventh win in the twelfth game of the season.

The Chiefs have now mathematically secured their place in the playoffs. The team wants to become the first team in NFL history to win the Super Bowl for the third time in a row.
