Former NFL quarterback arrested after stabbing

Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was arrested in the hospital after a stabbing.

The current TV expert from Fox Sports was injured in the incident in Indianapolis but was reportedly in stable condition. Police have charged the 38-year-old with assault, unauthorized entry into a vehicle, and public intoxication.

According to police, Sanchez can remain in the hospital for the time being and has not been transferred to a detention center. The agency had previously announced that it was investigating a late-night confrontation between two men in a popular nightlife district, one of whom was taken to the hospital with stab wounds. The other man was treated for cuts.

The final decision on how to proceed in the case rests with the district attorney's office, police said. Sanchez was apparently in Indianapolis for Sunday's game between the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Californian played in the NFL between 2009 and 2018, playing for the New York Jets, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Cowboys, the Chicago Bears, and the Washington Football Team. After his professional career, he took on jobs as a TV pundit for several networks.

Fox Sports reacted with sadness to the events. "We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask everyone to respect his privacy and that of his family during this time," it said in a statement. The New York Jets and several former teammates also expressed their condolences and wished Sanchez a speedy recovery.
