Steinhauser impresses at the World Cup in Rome

Verena Steinhauser made it into the top ten at the Triathlon World Cup sprint in Rome.

The 30-year-old from Brixen finished seventh on Saturday as the best Azzurra after a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike ride, and five-kilometer run, finishing 27 seconds behind the victorious Austrian Carina Reicht.

Reicht, who thus celebrated her first World Cup victory, secured only the second victory by an Austrian in the second-highest competition level after the World Championship series. The Styrian left behind Frenchwoman Sandra Dodet (+5 seconds) and German Franka Rust (+7 seconds).

In the men's race, Belgian Arnaud Mengal prevailed in the final sprint with a time of 54.04 minutes, ahead of Spaniard Izan Edo Aguilar (+1) and Frenchman Nathan Grayel (+2). Nicola Azzano finished the race as the best Azzurro in eleventh place (+22), while Euan De Nigro from Brixen finished 45th in 56.47 minutes.
