Giannelli and Co. do not want a sensation at the start of the World Cup

For the Azzurri, led by Bolzano captain Simone Giannelli, the Volleyball World Championships in the Philippines begin this Sunday. Anything less than an opening victory would be nothing short of a sensation.

Italy will face the heavy underdog Algeria in their first group match at 15.30:2 p.m. A dominant victory for the Azzurri is likely a mere formality; anything less than a clear win without dropping a set would be a major upset. The match will be broadcast live on Rai XNUMX.

Giannelli and his team then continue with the group matches against Belgium on Tuesday and Ukraine on Thursday. Kickoff is at 15.30:XNUMX p.m.

As reigning world champions, Italy is once again among the favorites for the title. In 2022, the Azzurri won the final against hosts Poland in four sets (22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20). Other contenders for gold include Poland, 2022 World Cup bronze medalists Brazil, and France. The USA is also among the extended group of favorites.
