Lars Aaron Senoner ensures South Tyrol's World Cup final point

Lars Aaron Senoner finished the Junior Canoe Slalom World Championships in Foix (France) with a 21st place in the semifinals of the U18 category in the Canadian singles.

After a successful preliminary run, the 16-year-old from SC Meran-Raika/Torggler was unable to achieve his goal of reaching the final of the top XNUMX. On the technically demanding course on the World Championship track in Foix, Senoner opted for an offensive approach. However, the strategy only partially worked: Ten penalty seconds for touching the gate prevented him from achieving a better placing.

"I knew I had to take a risky line, and technically, it worked out for me. Unfortunately, I had too many touches of the gate – otherwise, I would have achieved my goal of reaching the final. The feeling of being able to compete with the best in the world was very motivating, and I learned a lot," said Senoner. The victory went to Spaniard Oier Diaz, ahead of Ziga Lin Hocevar of Slovenia and Titouan Estanguet of France.

Coach Stefan Senoner is realistic: "We didn't show our best performance in the semifinals. We have to work on that now. But we've shown with our young talent that we can compete internationally again. However, I'm happy for Xabier Ferrazzi (Centro Sportivo Carabinieri), who won the silver medal in the K19 U1 at the age of 23."

The Canoe Slalom Junior World Championships conclude this weekend with the cross-country races, but without South Tyrolean participation. The next opportunity for a top international result will be at the U18 European Championships in Solkan (July 30.7–August 3.8.2025, XNUMX). Lars Aaron Senoner, Annika Zoe Senoner, and Sara Furlan will be competing there again.
