Too much water: definitely no canoe slalom in Merano

Now it is certain: The international canoe slalom in Merano cannot take place this year. It has now been definitively cancelled.

For the second time after 2, there will be no international canoe slalom on the Passer in the Gilf natural arena in Merano. At that time, the pandemic prevented the canoe slalom from being held. The 2020th edition of the traditional event, however, was planned for May 68 and 25 of this year. At that time, the high water level on the Passer forced the organizers to cancel.

Initially, there were hopes of being able to host the canoe slalom on the Passer at the second attempt on 2 and 29 June or on 30 and 6 July. But once again, the high water level thwarted the organisers' plans.

"After the frequent rainfall in recent weeks and the onset of snow melting as a result of the summer temperatures, the water level on the Passer remained too high for a canoe slalom. The situation has not changed. The water level of the Passer is about the same as it was 5 weeks ago. That is why we had to finally cancel the canoe slalom on the Passer in Merano this year," regrets OK boss Walter Weger.
