The World Cup adventure ends without surprise

Advancing to the World Team Championships in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, would have been a major surprise for Italy's national teams. However, that didn't happen: Both the South Tyrolean women's and men's teams were eliminated after the group stage.

The women's team consisted of Adele Ainhauser, Dora Rinner, Silvia Gaiser, Edith Pfattner, Doris Libardi, Vera Rabanser, Christine Innerhofer, and Annemarie Innerhofer. They faced a tough draw, joining the top nations of Hungary and Austria in a group of three.

And the South Tyroleans lost both of them by a clear 0:8 score. Against Hungary, Christine Innerhofer became Italy's best player with 583 pins, while in the second match against Austria, Vera Rabanser took on this role with 570 pins.

The men's team, on the other hand, consisted of Andreas Dalvai, Alex Posch, Armin Egger, Georg Plaickner, Christian Mair, Daniel Prinoth, Julian Piazzi, and Christoph Heinz. Bernhard Geisler, as usual, served as their coach. They were in a group with Hungary, Austria, and Denmark. The opening match against Hungary ended in a 1-7 defeat, with Armin Egger scoring 610 pins as the only Italian player.

Strong performance against Austria and final victory against Denmark

In the second match against Austria, his Neumarkt teammate Daniel Prinoth followed suit, becoming the team's best with 617 pins. Even though Italy lost 2-6, their performance in this match was strong: An average of 596,5 pins demonstrates that Italy didn't make it easy for the overwhelming favorite, Austria. In the final match against Denmark, Italy was the favorite and lived up to that reputation with an 8-0 win, with Egger showing off his class with 656 pins.

Two other Neumarkt players, however, made it to the final round. Erik Kuna was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Serbia and his teammate Vilmos Zavarko. They ultimately won the title, defeating Germany 6-2 in the final.
