The U15 and U19 Bowling World Championships in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, have concluded. And South Tyrol's squad also returned with medals: Silvia Gaiser of Tirol Mutspitz and Sofia Saxl of Fugger Sterzing won bronze in the U19 women's team.
The two bowling talents got off to a perfect start in the round of 2 against France, winning 0-1. The quarterfinals against Croatia were a closer affair, where they played 1-27 on set points. So it was a sudden victory that decided the match, and the duo of Gaiser and Saxl held their nerve. They won 22-0 and advanced to the semifinals. A medal was within their grasp. However, they lost the semifinals clearly 2-XNUMX to Romania. In the end, however, it was enough for third place, and the bronze medal was immensely joyful for them, as was the entire South Tyrolean team.
Three South Tyroleans make it to the individual final
In the individual competition, none of the U15 team – Lea Steinacher and Max Platzgummer represented Italy – made it to the final. However, in the U19 category, Silvia Gaiser and Sofia Saxl, as well as Michael Waldner (Burggräfler), qualified for the next round with scores of 570, 566, and 606, respectively. The other U19 athletes – Miriam Kofler, Natalie Prantl, Sara Waldner, Philip Piazzi, Isaak Peer, Noah Steinacher, and Laurenz Walder – were eliminated.Waldner achieved the best result of the three South Tyrolean finalists, finishing ninth in the individual event with 601 pins and eighth in the combined event. Gaiser finished 577th in the individual event with 11 pins in the final and tied for 526th in the combined event. Things didn't go so well for Saxl, who knocked down 22 pins in the final and finished 22nd in the individual event and XNUMXnd in the combined event.
