Bowling thriller: Kiens on the rise

If you look at the table of the A-Class women, the first two teams are not surprising: Fugger Sterzing leads ahead of Villnöß. Behind them there is a gap in points and the chasing field is led by Kiens. This is a surprise, after all, the promoted team was among the relegation candidates before the start of the season. But the Pustertal women have earned this place in the sun, which they also proved on Saturday against Burggräfler.

They sent the Burggräfler team home with a score of 4:2. The captain of the Kiener team became the match winner. Sonja Fischer knocked down 609 pins and set a new personal record. She took 553 set points from her direct opponent Kristina Pöhl (3 pins) and celebrated a safe victory.

A cone brings the decision Before that, Klara Lechner, Sandra Santer and Martha Lechner were on the track for Kiens and Natalie Prantl, Mirjam Kofler and Helene Gasser for Burggräfler. Klara Lechner and Natalie Prantl had a very exciting duel that could not have ended more closely: Lechner got 505 pins, Prantl's scoreboard remained at 506 pins. Both had scored 2 set points each, which is why in the end the one pin more was decisive for the Burggräfler.

Sandra Santer corrected this with an undisputed 541:466 victory against Mirjam Kofler (4:0 in set points). Helene Gasser increased the score against Martha Lechner to 2:1 for Burggräfler (565:510 pins, 3:1 in set points), before Fischer equalized again and the overall result was also on Kiens' side (2165:2090 pins).

Sterzing avoids the slip-up The men's title fight is more exciting this year than it has been for a long time. At the moment, Fugger Sterzing is leading the table, but Neumarkt has played one game less and could catch up with a win. In other words: slip-ups are not allowed for either team if they want to be crowned champions. But it almost happened to Fugger. In the home game against Passeier, they still won 5:3.

Passeier was not able to pull off the surprise.

The hosts got off to a strong start in the Bliegerstadion in Freienfeld, the home of the Fuggers. Stefan Zini (Fugger Sterzing) clearly defeated Hugo Ennemoser (Passeier) with 569:514 pins (4:0 in set points), Florian Thaler then made it 2:0 against Passeier's Walter Pichler. Thaler scored 580 pins and thus got 2 set points, the same as Pichler, who only managed 563 pins. When Fugger player Franz Höller then won his duel against Passeier bowler Helmut Zipperle with 545:519 pins (3:1 in set points) and increased the score to 3:0, it seemed clear that the Fuggers would snatch this victory.

Passeier crowns the counterattack But Passeier did not give up and started the counterattack. First Markus Prünster reduced the score against Manuel Hofer to 1:3. Prünster knocked down 569 pins and secured 3 set points, Hofer got 561. Then it was Walter Raich's turn for Passeier and he had to face Hans Peter Hochrainer. This was exciting: Both players got 2 set points each, Hochrainer got 554 pins, Raich 561. The 7 pin difference decided the difference for the Passeier player.

The last two exceptional talents to take to the track were Reinhard Gruber from the Fuggers and Oswald Kofler from Passeier, who had an exciting match in which Kofler made the Passeier comeback perfect. He knocked 2 pins off the track, Gruber "only" 619 pins and the victory went to Kofler. In the overall result, however, Fugger Sterzing was ahead (591:3400), which meant that the 3345 points in the table remained in the Wipptal.
