Newcomer plays big

Last Tuesday, after a thrilling bowling match, the score was 4-4, and the Fuggers suffered a setback in the race for the top spots. However, it should be noted that the season has only just begun, with 21 games still to play. The Fuggers Sterzing will certainly recover from the draw. However, Hölzerne 9 Klausen immediately gained a huge boost of confidence and can build on their strong team performance at the start of the season.

The hosts got off to a flying start on the bowling alley at the Klostersepp Inn. Stefan Gasser (Hölzerne 9) defeated Manuel Hofer (Fugger Sterzing) 558-544 (3-1 in set points). Andreas Brunner for Klausen and Stefan Zini for Sterzing were also on the lane. And this is where one of the peculiarities of bowling became apparent: Brunner, with 567 pins, knocked down one more pin than Zini (566), but because the Sterzing player scored three set points, the match point went to the visitors.

Klausen wasn't so easily defeated: Eduard Staffler, Michael Baumgartner, and Klaus Kasslatter secured match points two, three, and four for the hosts against Florian Thaler, Thomas Rainer, and Egon Ralser, respectively. While Staffler clearly defeated Thaler 592-552 (4-0 in set points) and Kasslatter secured a 580-567 victory against Ralser (2-2 in set points), the match between Baumgartner and Rainer was particularly exciting. In the end, Baumgartner prevailed by three pins (567-564) at 2-2 in sets.

In the final duel, however, everything changed again, as the infallible Reinhard Gruber defeated Stefan Marmsoler with 621:524 pins and thus secured the decisive lead in the overall result (3414:3388 pins), resulting in a 4:4 draw.

Kiens shows its muscles in the derby The fact that Kiens wants to, and indeed can, finish among the top spots in the 2025/26 season is due to its strong team. The women, led by sports captain Sonja Fischer, had a derby scheduled for the start of the season. Last Wednesday, they faced newly promoted Pustertal. In the end, the Kiens team left no doubt and fully lived up to their role as favorites.

In the first duel on Pustertal's home track at Alping (St. Georgen), Sieglinde Müller and Sandra Santer from Kienen faced each other. They delivered a thrilling battle, each taking two set points. Santer knocked down 18 more pins (515:497) and gave the visitors the first match point. Sarah Hirber (Kiens) immediately followed up with the second against Cornelia Crepaz (Pustertal), scoring the day's best 539 pins. Crepaz only managed 440 pins and thus had to concede all four set points to her opponent. Sonja Fischer secured the decisive victory in the third match of the day. Against Margith Gruber of Pustertal, the Kiens sports captain earned three set points with her 529 pins, while Gruber herself achieved 473 pins and one set point. With a 3-0 lead behind her, Kiens player Sandra Santer then had to admit defeat to Kathrin Brugger. Brugger threw the best performance of her team with 519 pins and thus earned three set points, which gave Pustertal the consolation point. Jasmin Santer's scoreboard remained at 505 pins. However, this did not change the visitors' victory; the overall result saw Kiens lead 2088 to 1929 pins, resulting in a 5-1 final score.
