First World Cup podium: South Tyrolean climber shines

Filip Schenk has achieved a podium finish in the Climbing World Cup for the first time in his career in Chamonix (France).

In one of the most traditional competitions on the international calendar, the 25-year-old from St. Christina took third place in lead climbing – one of the three sport climbing disciplines that will be contested as an individual medal event at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, after having been part of the "Bouldering & Lead" combination in Paris in 2024.

After Schenk finished 20th (20,87 points) in the qualification round – on the climbing wall at the foot of Mont Blanc – the South Tyrolean delivered an exceptional performance in the semifinals: He reached a 37+ hold, placing fifth. Japanese Sorato Anraku, his compatriot Shion Omata, and American Colin Duffy also reached the same height, but overtook him due to their better placings in the preliminary round.

In the final, the Val Gardena native continued his strong performance, finishing his run with a fantastic 43+ – the same score as Spaniard Alberto Ginés López, who secured second place thanks to his better semifinal result (39). The win went to Sorato Anraku, who was the only finalist to reach the top hold and thus deservedly took the top spot on the podium.
