South Tyrol's young climbers show off

The Italian championship in the three disciplines of bouldering, lead and speed took place in the Palazzetto dello Sport Unione sportiva Primiero. The more than 300 participants in the U10, U12 and U14 categories qualified for the Italian youth championship in regional competitions.

At U14 and U12, the athletes climbed individually against each other. The U10, on the other hand, started in teams of four; for the South Tyrol-Trentino region there were three girls and three boys teams.

The boys' competitions were of a high standard. Simon Fill from AVS Brixen won the U12 bouldering. The new Italian champion cleared 7 out of 8 boulders, so he only needed one attempt. He climbed the last boulder in three attempts.

Simon Fill also showed his strength in the speed competition: he came second behind Marco Lippi (Milan), Jonas Schuen (AVS Bruneck) came third and Emil Weiss (AVS Bozen) fourth.

The U10 girls’ teams took second, sixth and eighth places, while the U10 boys’ teams took second, fifth and eighth places. In the combined ranking, in which the results of all participating teams counted, the Trentino-South Tyrol region came in first place.

Overall, the competitions were characterized by the joy of climbing and an enthusiastic atmosphere.

South Tyrol's young climbers show off

More than 300 athletes from all over Italy recently took part in the Italian Climbing Championships in the U14 category in San Martino di Castrozza. Simon Fill took gold in Boulder and silver in Lead, Jonas Schuen came third in Lead.
