Hatherly World Champion again – Avondetto wins silver
South African Alan Hatherly successfully defended his World Cross Country title. Simone Avondetto also had reason to celebrate.

Hatherly won the concluding title fight on Sunday in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, ahead of Avondetto (+48 seconds). Bronze went to Victor Koretzky of France (+51 seconds). Switzerland's Luca Schatti narrowly missed the podium in fourth place.
Two more Azzurri riders made it into the top ten: Luca Braidot in seventh place (+1.31) and Filippo Fontana in eighth place (+2.16). Meanwhile, Swiss record champion Nino Schurter finished 42nd in his World Championship farewell in front of his home crowd.

There were no South Tyroleans competing in the elite cross-country races. U23 rider Elian Paccagnella finished 43rd on Saturday. (SportNews reported)
