In the final of the top 15 on Saturday afternoon, Widmann finished twelfth, 10,972 seconds behind the victorious Gracey Hemstreet. Second and third places went to Anna Newkirk (USA/+0,865) and Valentina Höll (Austria/+2,427).
Widmann narrowly made it to the final on Friday, finishing fourth in the second qualifying round; she hadn't finished higher than 16th in the first. As a reminder, there's a new qualification format in the Downhill World Cup this year. The top ten finishers in the first round advance to the final, with five more spots awarded in the second round.
In the men's competition, Jan Laner from Gais celebrated his World Cup debut after strong performances and victories in national races. However, the 23-year-old, finishing 75th and 56th, clearly missed qualifying for the final of the top 30 men. In the first men's qualifying run, 20 downhillers will receive a ticket to the final, and another XNUMX in the second.
