Widmann misses top spot in Lenzerheide

The downhill elite, including Veronika Widmann, battled for victory at the World Cup in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, on Saturday. However, the Traminer native was unable to compete.

At the World Championships in Valais two weeks ago, the 32-year-old finished 15th. Widmann had to settle for the same result on Saturday in Lenzerheide. This is particularly disappointing, given that only 15 athletes competed in the final. The South Tyrolean had qualified for the final the day before in 14th place, but failed to improve her performance.

Widmann lost time continuously from top to bottom, losing 15 seconds to the winner, Tahnee Seagrave. The Briton relegated German Nina Hoffmann, who was only 61 thousandths of a second slower, to second place. Austrian World Champion Valentina Höll completed the podium (+0,815 seconds). Best Azzurra rider was Gloria Scarsi in ninth place.

Azzurri are lagging behind

The men's victory went to Frenchman Amaury Pierron, who beat Henri Kiefer (Germany) and Lachlan Stevens-McNab of Australia. Loris Revelli finished as the best Italian in 20th place. No South Tyroleans competed. The World Cup weekend in Lenzerheide concludes on Sunday with the cross-country races.
