Season opener: Seiwald not yet up to speed
Greta Seiwald, who had been battling a cold beforehand, was unable to achieve success at the season opener in Brazil.

The mountain bike season kicked off in Araxá on Saturday. The first event in Brazil was the short-track race, with Greta Seiwald from the Pustertal Valley competing. The cyclist, who has consistently achieved good results in this discipline in the past, had to settle for 36th place this time. Seiwald was 2,27 minutes behind world champion Evie Richards of Great Britain, who took the day's victory ahead of Samara Maxwell (New Zealand/+0,01 seconds) and Alessandra Keller (Switzerland/+0,05).
In the men's short-distance race, Christopher Blevins of the USA triumphed, ahead of Olympic champion Victor Koretzky of France (+0,01). Mathis Azzaro of France took third place (+0,02). The best Azzurro finisher was Luca Braidot in seventh place (+0,09).
