After a minute's silence: Ciccone wins Tour of the Alps

The 2025 Tour of the Alps has kicked off! The first stage winner is Giulio Ciccone. But this sporting event was also overshadowed by the death of Pope Francis on Easter Monday.

Just before the start of this year's Tour de France, news of Pope Francis's death reached the riders. A minute's silence was observed before the start of the first stage, and all musical and celebratory entertainment was omitted during the race.

The first stage, with start and finish in San Lorenzo Dorsino, south of Lake Molveno in Trentino, took the cyclists over 148,5 kilometers through the Alpine valleys.
