Spaniard Romeo new leader of the Dauphiné

The young Spaniard Ivan Romeo won the 3rd stage of the Tour of the Dauphiné and took the lead in the overall standings.

Five kilometers from the finish in Charantonnay, south of Lyon, the 21-year-old from the Movistar racing team broke away from the ten-man breakaway group led by Mathieu van der Poel. The peloton, including favorites Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar, lost a good minute to the new wearer of the yellow jersey.

Romeo, last year's U23 time trial world champion, replaced Italian sprinter Jonathan Milan as leader and heads into Wednesday's fourth stage, a 17 km individual time trial from Charmes-sur-Rhône to Saint-Péray, with a lead of 4 seconds or more. The challenging stage, which finishes on Sunday on the Plateau du Mont-Cenis, is essentially a dress rehearsal for the Tour de France (July 17,4-5).
