Vingegaard reached the finish of the 14th stage on the Alto de La Farrapona in second place alongside his biggest rival Joao Almeida from Portugal.
The day's victory went to Spaniard Marc Soler, who was left behind on the final climb after 135,9 kilometers from a breakaway group originally consisting of more than 20 riders.

One day after the showdown on the Angliru, Vingegaard and third-placed Almeida crossed the finish line 39 seconds behind Soler. The Dane remains in first place overall with a 48-second advantage. Briton Tom Pidcock follows in third, 2:38 minutes behind.

Meanwhile, the Israel-Premier Tech team decided to ride the remaining eight stages without the "Israel" logo on its jerseys for safety reasons. During the Vuelta, the team was at the center of many protests by pro-Palestinian demonstrators. On Saturday, there were also protests at the start in Avilés. Many Palestinian flags were seen. However, it remained peaceful.
On Sunday, shortly after the start in A Veiga, the riders will climb a top-class mountain. After that, the effort will be limited until the finish in Monforte de Lemos, so no major changes in the overall standings are expected. The tour ends on September 14 in Madrid.
