Vuelta: Philipsen celebrates in Zaragoza

Sprint star Jasper Philipsen celebrated his second stage victory at the 80th Vuelta.

The Belgian professional cyclist prevailed in a bunch sprint after 163,5 kilometers from Monzon to Zaragoza, defeating Italian Elia Viviani and Briton Ethan Vernon. Philipsen had already won the opening stage of this Tour of Spain.

At this year's Tour de France, the 27-year-old Belgian triumphed on the first stage, but was forced to abandon the race two days later after a serious crash. Philipsen suffered a broken collarbone and a fractured rib.

Norwegian Traeen continues in red

Norwegian Torstein Traeen defended his overall lead and continues to wear the red jersey at the Vuelta. Top favorite Jonas Vingegaard finished with the peloton on stage eight. In the overall standings, the two-time Tour de France winner remains 2:33 minutes behind leader Traeen. Portuguese Joao Almeida is third, 2:41 minutes behind.
