Evenepoel amazes Pogacar & Co.

Olympic cycling champion Remco Evenepoel dominated the individual time trial at the Critérium du Dauphiné and took the overall lead after the 4th stage.

The Belgian fully lived up to his role as favorite in the 17,4km race against the clock from Charmes-sur-Rhône to Saint-Péray on Wednesday. Evenepoel (Soudal) beat Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard (Visma) by 21 seconds, while Slovenian Tour winner Tadej Pogacar (UAE) finished fourth, losing 49 seconds.

Evenepoel took over the yellow jersey from Spaniard Ivan Romeo (Movistar), who is now third, nine seconds back. Vingegaard is in fifth place, 16 seconds behind, while Pogacar (+38) is only eighth overall after the time trial with a short climb.

"I'm very happy and proud of the win. It's our team's 1000th victory. This victory is for Patrick (note: former team boss Lefevere). I'm better than last year; I've worked hard," said Evenepoel.
The tour, which ends on Sunday on the Plateau du Mont-Cenis, is essentially a dress rehearsal for the Tour de France from July 5 to 27.
