Juventus starts on the right foot

The new Serie A season began with a win for Juventus. The Old Lady lived up to their favorite status against Parma. At the same time, Atalanta and Lazio got off to a bad start.

Coach Igor Tudor was able to rely on his strikers in front of his own fans. After a weak first half from the Bianconeri, new signing Jonathan David scored the opening goal in the 59th minute. Six minutes before the end, Andrea Cambiaso was sent off, but the game was never over. Just a minute later, substitute Dusan Vlahovic sealed the 2-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Atalanta, under new coach Ivan Juric, could only manage a 1-1 draw with newly promoted Pisa. After defender Isak Hien scored an own goal in the 26th minute, Gianluca Scamacca equalized immediately after the restart. But that was all it took for Charles De Ketelaere and his team.

Lazio loses

Lazio had already gotten off to a classic bad start. Maurizio Sarri's team lost 0-2 to Como. Anastasios Douvikas fired home in the 47th minute from a pass by Nico Paz. The talented Argentinian then doubled the lead with a quarter of an hour to go, sealing the victory.

Cagliari and Fiorentina, on the other hand, drew 1-1. Sebastiano Luperto emerged as the celebrated hero, saving the tie for Cagliari in the 94th minute. Rolando Mandragora had earlier given the Tuscans the lead. Matchday one concludes on Monday with matches between Udinese and Hellas Verona, and Inter and Torino.
