All of Italian football was focused on Bergamo's Gewiss Stadium on Sunday evening, where the top-of-the-table clash between Atalanta and Inter took place. At the end of the day, the Milanese emerged as the clear winners: Inter won the clash 2-0 and took sole possession of the Serie A lead, a position they had shared with Napoli before kickoff.
Inter laid the foundation for victory with a header from Carlos Augusto just after halftime. However, this goal was preceded by a tragic scene. As Inter's Hakan Calhanoglu stepped up to take a corner, fans alerted him to a medical emergency. An Inter supporter in the stands suddenly suffered a bout of nausea. Paramedics immediately rushed to the scene and carried the affected fan away on a stretcher. The match was suspended for six minutes until Calhanoglu finally took the corner – and Augusto headed in the 1-0 lead (54').

Inter then cleverly closed things down at the back, and Atalanta weakened themselves with a second yellow card for Ederson (he protested too vehemently in the 81st minute). Shortly before the end, Lautaro Martinez sealed the deal with a powerful shot (87th minute). Inter thus celebrated a big win in the title race, also because Napoli could only manage a 0-0 draw against Venezia on Sunday.
