Masters on the sofa: A man from Val Gardena marches into Serie B

As always, on Monday we will look back on the weekend of the South Tyrolean professionals in the field. And this time the focus is on a person from Val Gardena.

Actually is David Wieser with his club Mantova (Serie C, Group A) only played against Renate on Monday evening. But the third division club with the Val Gardena midfielder had enough to celebrate on Sunday: Because competitor Padova failed in the championship race, Mantova was crowned champion of the league on the sofa and promoted to Serie B.


Photos on social media show the team celebrating in a living room. Padova's slip-up was followed live on TV and then celebrated properly. Wieser has been playing for the Lombard club since this season and has made 27 appearances so far, scoring two goals. By the way, Mantova is the second newcomer to Serie B: At the end of March, Cesena was able to secure promotion to the FC South Tyrol League.

By the way, Wieser grew up at FC Südtirol, but moved to Inter in his youth. With the Nerazzurri, the now 22-year-old was even allowed to sit on the bench in a Serie A game at the San Siro Stadium. Now Wieser is causing a sensation in Serie C.

South Tyrolean duel goes to Heinz

Otherwise, from a South Tyrolean perspective, the meeting was this weekend Jonas Heinz and Manuel Fischnler in focus. Heinz defends for Fermana in the B circle of Serie C, Fischnelller storms for SEF Torres. In the end, Kellerkind Fermana achieved a surprising 2-1 win against the top Sardinian team. Both South Tyroleans were in the starting line-up.

Simone Zanon and Emanuele Zuelli, Both under contract with Carrarese in Group B of Serie C, they suffered a 1-4 defeat against Recanatese, with both playing 45 minutes each. Elion Toci can no longer be stopped at Pro Sesto (Serie C, Group A) and hit the mark again in the 2-2 draw against Legnago. He also took a penalty.

Straudi and Reinthaler injured

Lorenzo Sgarbi (Avellino, Serie C, Group C) celebrated his comeback after a red card suspension and won against Turris 4-0. He was on the field for 35 minutes. Federico Davi (Arzignano, Serie C, Group A) played at left-back for over 1 minutes in the 1-90 draw with Pergolettese.

Sampdoria was the top scorer in Serie B Manuel DeLuca In the 2-2 draw over Palermo he was on the pitch for 66 minutes, this time he was unable to score. Simon Straud (Klagenfurt, 1st League Austria) and Max Reinthaler (1860 Munich, 3rd League Germany) are currently missing due to injury.
