FC Obermais is crowned cup winner

FC Obermais has added another special chapter to its glorious club history: the Merano team won the South Tyrolean Oberliga Cup on Saturday afternoon in Auer in front of more than 500 spectators.

Blue-white against blue-white: This was the motto of the final game in the South Tyrolean Oberliga Cup. Here is FC St. Pauls, who played their seventh final game in Auer in the last 18 months. There was FC Obermais, who really wanted to cling to this sense of success after a first half of the season with many ups and downs. In the end, the Merano team succeeded: They retained the upper hand against St. Pauls 3-0.

A player who was one of the big winners of the first half of the season for Obermaiser became the match winner. Tobias Pföstl, who moved from Schenna to the Lahn this summer, played a huge part in Merano's victory with a brace. Two weeks ago, the 24-year-old was the man of the game with two goals in the duel against arch-rivals Naturns.

The 56th minute was also crucial in this cup fight, when Pauls striker Jonas Clementi had to leave the field with a red card. Cementi and Obermais defender Alex De Biasi rose up in a header duel on the halfway line, the Obermais player received the elbow of the Paulsner striker and for referee Kola from the Merano section the situation was clear: red card for Clementi. This was the first excitement of the match after the first half had been largely uneventful.

Obermais captain scores with an overhead kick

But things went off after the red card. It only took five minutes and Obermais took the lead. A direct shot from Tobias Pföstl, which first landed on the lower edge of the crossbar and from there into the goal, sent the Obermais fans into ecstasy. The Merano team now smelled a fuse and followed up: with an overhead kick in the penalty area, FCO captain Lukas Höller gave St. Paul's goalkeeper Passarella the disadvantage. The decision was made in the 76th minute. Matteo Timpone played on the right to Timothy Prinoth, who crossed the ball into the middle, where Pföstl was lurking at the second post and shot in to make it 3-0. In stoppage time, Noel Hülsensattl had the chance to make it 4-0, but that would have been too much of a good thing.

The Paulsner players gathered after the defeat.

On Saturday, December 16th at 14.30:XNUMX p.m., cup winners Obermais will meet Levico in Leifers. This final is about the regional title. The winner of this final will qualify for the national phase in the spring.
