Oberliga basement duel in Naturns: “This game is a final”

SSV Naturns has thoroughly ruined its start in the top league. With just one point from 6 games, the promoted team – together with SV Lana – is at the bottom of the table. On Sunday there will be a duel between the two basement children.

Lana and Naturns are at the bottom of the table after 6 league match days. The two South Tyrolean clubs have not yet won a game. Now there will be a direct duel on Sunday (15.30:XNUMX p.m.) in Naturns. A groundbreaking game, as the sporting director of Naturns, Werner Spechtenhauser, emphasizes: “A very, very important game for us. It’s like a finale.”

Naturns expected more from the start of the league season. This is no secret and Spechtenhauser also says openly: “We imagined it differently. There's a can of worms in there, everyone is a bit nervous." He expects a clear statement from his team on Sunday, i.e. a victory: "Everyone wants the victory. The mood is good, it's right within the team. The audience is still quiet, but of course everyone expects a win against Lana. If there was a defeat it would definitely be loud, that's completely normal." Spechtenhauser highlights the good aspects: "The training is good and the performances have been good recently. That makes me positive. We will stick together and hope for 3 points on Sunday.”

“It would definitely be loud if we lost.” Werner Spechtenhauser, sporting director of SSV Naturns

A big problem for the Naturns team at the moment is their defense. With 17 goals conceded, they conceded the second most goals - after Lana (24). What are the reasons for that? “I don’t want to blame the defense,” said Spechtenhauser. He demands a compact defensive performance from the entire team: “It starts at the front and goes through the midfield. But I've seen an increase recently. The button just has to open once.”

Required: Naturns defender and captain Matthias Peer.

Speaking of the front: Naturns' two top strikers, Fabian Nischler and Matthias Bacher, have been suffering from repeated injuries lately and have only been able to train in measured amounts. Here, too, we hope that the two attackers will be fully healthy soon. Dominic Weithaler has also been out injured for three games.
