“Slightly nervous”: Müller takes off for Canada

Thomas Müller says goodbye to his Bavarian homeland with a short video showing him jogging through a meadow landscape.

"Today is my flight to Vancouver. Last race in Germany. I'm really excited about the coming weeks. Let's go together. Let's go, Whitecaps," said the 35-year-old soccer star in English, smiling in the 14-second clip on Portal X.

The long-time FC Bayern Munich attacker also told Sky that he was "slightly nervous" for his standards. "It's the first time in a very long time that I'm joining a new team," Müller continued. "I'm excited, but also a certain amount of tension."

Twenty-five years ago, Müller moved from his youth club TSV Pähl to FC Bayern's youth team and remained loyal to the record champions, for whom he made 25 competitive appearances, until this summer. 756 German championships and six cup wins, along with two Champions League triumphs, are the Munich record player's special titles.

“The reactions were extraordinary”

The Vancouver Whitecaps of the North American professional league MLS plan to officially introduce Müller on Thursday (local time) and give him a celebratory welcome. "The reaction has been extraordinary. This is the biggest signing our club has ever made – by a long way," Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster told Sky. The 53-year-old previously worked for FC Schalke 04 and FSV Mainz 05.

"The excitement is huge. All games for the rest of the season will be sold out," added Schuster. Müller expects "a big party at the airport when he lands in Vancouver." The new signing could make his debut just three days later. On Sunday, his new team will face Houston Dynamo FC in a home game. "I want to arrive quickly, I want to get on the pitch quickly, and get to know the guys," said Müller. "I'm fit, we'll see about the rest."
