Dortmund stays on Bayern's heels

Borussia Dortmund has defended its second place in the Bundesliga behind league leaders FC Bayern Munich.

Coach Niko Kovac's team won 1-0 against VfL Wolfsburg at home on Matchday 4. Karim Adeyemi scored the decisive goal in the 20th minute.

This leaves BVB second in the table, two points behind the German champions. For Wolfsburg, where Danish international star Christian Eriksen made his debut as a substitute, it was their first defeat of the young season.

Point for Polanski on debut

Leverkusen remains on a single win. The 2024 champions squandered their three points against Gladbach in the 92nd minute. Former Austrian Haris Tabakovic made it 1-1 with a header on Gladbach's interim coach Eugen Polanski's debut. Malik Tillman had put Leverkusen, who are currently eleventh and have already closed a seven-point gap to Bayern, in the lead (70th minute).

With their 4-3 away win in Frankfurt, Union Berlin moved into tenth place on points (6 points each) behind sixth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt. Oliver Burke was a standout for the visitors, scoring a hat trick (32', 53', 56').
