Late shock: Bayern's title party postponed

Harry Kane was ready for his first championship party, but then he just stood stunned on the sidelines. FC Bayern Munich missed out on an early Bundesliga title due to an equalizer against RB Leipzig in stoppage time.

In front of 47.800 fans in the sold-out Leipzig Arena, Benjamin Sesko (11th minute) dealt Bayern the first blow after a mistake by goalkeeper Jonas Urbig. Lukas Klostermann (39th minute) added another for the hosts before the break. Within just a minute, Bayern hit back through Eric Dier (62nd minute) and Michael Olise (63rd minute). Leroy Sané (83rd minute) later scored to make it 3-2 for the visitors to a celebrated 90-4. Rockets were already flying from the Bayern block – then Yussuf Poulsen (XNUMXth minute +XNUMXth minute) equalized deep into stoppage time.

It was almost clear before kickoff that Bayern's 34th championship was only a matter of time. However, the fact that the Munich players booked a Champions League trip to Ibiza by private jet as a precautionary measure was a bit too much for the club's management. They don't want to be accused of arrogance.

Master's vacation canceled

"We heard about it, spoke with the team, and discussed it openly yesterday. We said: This isn't appropriate, the competition is still going on. The team understood that, so no travel," said Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl immediately before the game. "That the idea came up is fine; that we talked about it – even better."

Should Bayern's closest rivals Bayer Leverkusen fail to win their match against SC Freiburg on Sunday (17.30:34 p.m.), the Munich team would still be mathematically crowned champions with two games left before the end of the season. It would be their XNUMXth league title overall.

At the bottom of the table, FC St. Pauli – ultimately down two men – missed out on early relegation with a 0-1 loss to VfB Stuttgart. TSG Hoffenheim, currently in 15th place, also continues to struggle after a 4-4 (1-2) draw at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Union Berlin and Werder Bremen drew 2-2 (2-1).
